In the first round of our read-along, everything is sudden and nothing is what I expected. And I can’t get enough of this book. Let’s discuss The Goblin Emperor. Spoilers follow for chapters 1 through 9.

It’s May 1st. The third annual Wyrd and Wonder is finally here! It’s here, and I am already making changes to my intended reading list. But screw it, I don’t want to live in a world where chaos does not reign!* *Only occasionally. Please moderate your chaos. Also, stay at home.
*Dusts the shelves, throws open curtains, opens windows* Hello, and welcome back! Yes, I am still alive, still … getting by? As I hope we all are? Times are so strange, you guys. So strange. But hey, let’s talk about something more fun! Today I am planning a thing, with the help of my Wyrd and Wonder cohorts – I bring you the Wyrd and Wonder 2020 Readalong!
The Deverry Readalong continues apace, and February saw me reading Darkspell for the first time. Things get darker and more dangerous, both in the past, the present and presumably in the future, for our Wyrd-bound heroes – and I’m here for all of it.
So I can’t sit on this any longer, and it’s looking unlikely that I’ll have time to add anything to this list with only two and a half days left in the year. So it’s time to present the list of my absolute favourite reads of 2019! (In no particular order, because otherwise I’d be preparing this post ALL DAY and into the night…)
It’s all about endings – some a relief, and some utterly heartbreaking – in the final chapters of this book. This damn book. Grab your tissues and join me to discuss the fate of our darlings. Spoilers will follow for chapters 43 through to the end.
What’s that? I’m writing a full review of a book for a change? Why yes, I am. Change is good, you know. Today I’m breaking away from the (sort of) routine here to join a whole host of fellow bloggers and reviewers on Gollancz’s blog tour for the new novel by Garth Nix. More details, and my review, await below the cut!
Noon returns. The gang rescue Bern, with some unforeseen assistance. Hestillion is truly tested in battle, at last. And I spilled my feelings absolutely EVERYWHERE. Let’s discuss The Poison Song. Spoilers follow for chapters 31 through 42.
Vintage and Chenlo clash with Queen Tyranny, Noon is forced to confront her past, and Tor makes a terrible decision – with dire consequences for Bern. Deep breaths. Let’s discuss The Poison Song. Spoilers follow for chapters 20 through 30.
Well. That escalated quickly. SPOILERS WILL FOLLOW FOR CHAPTERS 32 THROUGH 42. In this part of the book, Eliza finds out where The Suits were taking her, and is left with an existential revelation (or several). Meanwhile, Karou comes up with a plan and convinces the others to go along with it – but a surprise attack throws everything into chaos… I AM NOT OKAY. Let’s discuss Dreams of Gods and Monsters.
