*Dusts the shelves, throws open curtains, opens windows*
Hello, and welcome back! Yes, I am still alive, still … getting by? As I hope we all are? Times are so strange, you guys. So strange.
But hey, let’s talk about something more fun! Today I am planning a thing, with the help of my Wyrd and Wonder cohorts – I bring you the Wyrd and Wonder 2020 Readalong!
If you pay attention to myself or to Wyrd and Wonder on Twitter, you might have heard hints about this (or possibly not – time is strange, as I said, and I find myself more unable than usual to remember what I said days ago, or what day of the week it was when I said it…). But plans are definitely afoot, and now I can reveal that this year’s Wyrd and Wonder Readalong book of choice is The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison!
I’ve used the US cover image here because I bought a copy online ahead of the book’s UK release, and then the book sat on my shelf for ages *cough*. But now the time to finally read it has (almost) come, and I am very excited to experience it after hearing so many wonderful opinions of it!
As always, whether you are also picking it up for the first time or you’ve read it before, you are welcome to join me as I host this readalong! The schedule, courtesy of imyril, is detailed below.
There’s no official sign-up for the readalong, but I’ll be boosting the signal on Twitter at regular(ish) intervals leading up to May 1st, and you can participate in the Q&As either on your blog if you have one, or on Twitter if you don’t!
In addition to posting the weekly questions in a Goodreads group page, I will tweet out the weekly questions as well, using the @wyrdandwonder account and the hashtag #TheGoblinEmperor, as well as the standard #wyrdandwonder tag.
You can use one tag or the other or even both in your tweets, but please (please please) remember to use at least one – it makes keeping track of the discussions much easier!
Right! With all of that out of the way, here is the readalong schedule – feel free to comment or tweet if you’d like to participate!
- Week 1: Wednesday 6th May, Chapters 1 through 9
- Week 2: Wednesday 13th May, Chapters 10 through 17 (end of part 2)
- Week 3: Wednesday 20th May, Chapters 18 through 26 (part 3)
- Week 4: Wednesday 27th May, Chapters 27 to End (part 4 & 5)
Regarding these dates: I will be posting the questions to Goodreads each Wednesday as per the schedule, and will be aiming to have my Q&A posts go live here each following Saturday, with the questions being tweeted later the same day for more open discussion.
Hopefully this will give people enough time to read between discussions, but as always I am not going to be strict about it – if you prefer to post/discuss on a different day, feel free! Remember to tag @wyrdandwonder and/or use the hashtags, and it’s all good.
(Just try to be mindful of anything too spoilery, if you are discussing the book ahead of time!)
I think that covers everything, but if you have any questions regarding something I missed, please do comment and ask away!

Yessss!
OMG this is perfect! I was planning on rereading this next month anyway!
Hooray!
I bought this book some time ago, too but… I haven’t read it yet! Shame on me and on my cow, but this would be a fantastic opportunity to do it!
You and me both! Let’s do it. ๐
