Engage: SciFi Month 2026

It’s November 1st, which means we are taking off for SciFi Month 2026! Let’s look at what’s on deck…

If you missed the previous post, here’s a reminder of what’s on deck for general crew consumption this month.

As for my personal plans, I intend to dig into my TBR shelves only for this SciFi Month – with the exception of the new Becky Chambers novel As You Wake, Break The Shell, which I have been looking forward to reading for a while and is my pick for this year’s buddy read over on our Discord server, OtherWorlds. Hit me up if you’re not part of the community there and you’d like an invite!

Stack of books featuring Under Fortunate Stars by Ren Hutchings, Glitterati by Oliver K. Langmead, Star Wars: Bloodline by Claudia Gray, Refractions & Inversions by M.V. Melcer, and As You Wake, Break the Shell by Becky Chambers

On the reading list:

  • Under Fortunate Stars by Ren Hutchings
  • Glitterati by Oliver K. Langmead
  • Star Wars: Bloodline by Claudia Gray
  • Refractions and Inversions by M.V. Melcer
  • As You Wake, Break the Shell by Becky Chambers

20th anniversary edition boxed set of Star Trek: The Next Generation
Borrowed from my dad, this is presently taking up a good chunk of space on my coffee table!

Also on my nerdy agenda this month (and beyond, let’s be real about it) is my first ever Proper Viewing of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Admittedly, the push I gave myself to finally sit down and watch this show came on the heels of the passing of the legendary Sir Patrick Stewart. I don’t think I know a single person who hasn’t felt this loss like a gut punch, and despite never having seen Star Trek I include myself among them. But I always maintain the belief that it’s never too late to try new things – if it’s new to you, you can always have that joy of discovery. Hopefully I will get to take all of you along on this journey with me. I’ll be sharing my thoughts on it, episode by episode, in OtherWorlds and probably elsewhere on social media too, so look out for that.

And I think that’s plenty to be getting on with, so I’m going to go and get on with it. As always for SciFi Month, though, there will be weekly round-ups of the adventures our crew go on, so check back here for those too!

Happy voyaging, crewmates!
