SciFi Month Mission Log, Part One

We are halfway through November. HOW ARE WE HALFWAY THROUGH NOVEMBER? Ahem. It’s been a slow month for me, but this is by design because from here until after the holidays it’s going to be very not slow, haha send help.

In the meantime, SciFi Month 2025 is well underway, and while we’re switching up our weekly Mission Logs to bring you only two – one now, one at the end of November – we still have much to share! So let’s get to it…

Green-tinted image of a planetary landscape, with a moon in the background. Text overlay reads "1-30 November / SciFi Month 2025 / Explore the landscape of your dreams"

Today I’ve got your lists, discussions, interviews and random bits and bobs, but don’t forget to check out imyril’s Mission Log where she’ll be introducing this year’s crew and covering your reviews. She’s also taking part in this year’s Read Along of Ann Leckie’s Ancillary Justice, so check out her posts on that as well!

To get us started, Heather at Based on a True Story brings us her science fiction TBR, a post featuring her favourite animals in SF (Critters in the Crawlspace), puts her travelling shoes on for Friday Fives, and takes a look back at her favourite SF since last SciFi Month;

Lauren at Always Me brought us a couple of Music Monday posts, featuring Severance and Murderbot respectively. She also highlighted some SF movies and TV shows she wants to watch, as well as her favourite reads since last November. Also on her agenda was the Friday 56 (times two!), a bookish rainbow for Top Ten Tuesday: Wavelengths, and Books from the Backlog, where she highlights Matthew de Abaitua’s The Destructives and S.L. Viehl’s Blade Dancer.

Kirsten at Video Games as Lit reflected a little on Bluesky about how SciFi Month helped her dig some SF gems out of the muck, and we love to hear about people finding those golden nuggets!

Emma at Words and Peace gave us her top 7 November reads, her top 10 SF reads for 2025, a sci-fi A to Z, and Book Hooks as a Friday feature.

Mayri the Bookforager spelled out the month in books with Fun for Monday, and a couple of Friday Fives: the journey, not the destination; and strange new worlds.

Annemieke at A Dance With Books brought us 10 random SF books from her shelf for our nonlinear equations prompt. She also featured a guest post from debut author Claudia Daher and delivered on some of our prompts: the journey not the destination, interesting ways to travel, and wavelengths.

imyril at There’s Always Room For One More injected a little chaos into Top Ten Tuesday, as well as being all about the journey for Friday Fives and looking back at her best-loved SF from the last year; she and Thomas Wrightson also tried their hands at some spine poetry for our SciFi Month Challenge!

Bluesky has seen a nice chunk of our nerdy action, as BookishLinda shared 10 titles from the top of her TBR, and Aditya calculated some nonlinear equations for Top Ten Tuesday as well as bringing us a Short Bursts double bill: short stories and SF zines!

Tammy at Books, Bones and Buffy and Anouk at Time for Tales and Tea were also all about the journey, not the destination for Friday Fives, not to mention exploring some strange new worlds; Tammy also brought us a list of 26 SF books to read in 2026.

Janette at Witchy Reading also brought us a Captain’s Log (supplemental) to look back at her favourite SF from the last year, and Zezee With Books ventured out of her comfort zone for Top Ten Tuesday.

Rachael AKA The Green Tea Librarian considered what books to add to the ship’s library; she also explored some strange new worlds for Friday Fives.

What a busy crew we’ve been! That’s it for this Mission Log, but don’t forget to look out for our end-of-month wrap-up. In the meantime, we’ve refueled and rested, so now it’s on with the journey…
