Sci-Fi Month 2020: To infinity… and beyond!

I realised I’ve been doing this for literal years and I’ve never quoted Buzz Lightyear. So consider that oversight corrected.

IT’S NOVEMBER, YOU GUYS. Stow your gear. Buckle yourselves in. We have lift=off!

I am so, so ready for a month of excitable nerding out, and to put a little icing on the cake, this time round I have the first two weeks of November off from work. I am completely free to focus my time and energy on reading, writing and boosting signals! Let’s do this.

First up, in case you missed it my co-host imyril at There’s Always Room For One More has this year’s crew list up, complete with links for the encouragement of comms chatter. Check that out, meet our newcomers, get reacquainted with our veterans, enjoy the tea and snacks in the galley, grab seats in the reading lounges – get yourselves comfortable! We’ve got a wonderfully long journey ahead.

What will I be up to? Well, that’s an excellent question…

Books and Buddies

My TBR is only loosely planned, because let’s face it, I am often my own worst enemy when it comes to sticking to a plan. But there are definitely books I fully intend to read, including (but not limited to):

  • Seven Devils by Elizabeth May & Laura Lam
  • The Vela, Season 1 (and 2?)
  • Behind the Throne by KB Wagers
  • Nophek Gloss by Essa Hansen

And then there’s our Read Along selection! This year, imyril has talked me into reading Mary Gentle’s Golden Witchbreed with her. Will you be joining us? Check out the reading schedule on Goodreads and let us know!

On screen

It’s going to be all books, all the time around here this year. With a juicy handful of SF-flavoured TV shows available that I’ve been eager to watch for a while, I figure it’s time to dust off the streaming subscriptions and stock up on popcorn for…

  • Star Trek: Discovery
  • Star Trek: Picard
  • Killjoys
  • The Expanse (ongoing viewing)

I think that’s plenty to go on for now, but let’s get stuck in and see what actually turns out, shall we?

As always, imyril and I will be posting weekly Mission Status Updates to help you all check in with each other and share our findings, so even if social media gets overwhelming you can still keep up with your crewmates! And speaking of social media, please do remember our hashtag – #SciFiMonth, and include @SciFiMonth in your tweets to make it easier to find and boost signals.

OK that’s enough housework for the moment. I’ve got exploring to do. Have fun, everyone!
