Darker nights mean brighter stars, and this November the crew of the good ship Sci-Fi Month plan to celebrate those jewels of our night skies as we take off yet again on another intergalactic voyage!
It feels a little like coming out of hibernation to do pretty much anything here, and while I’m deliberately not setting any plans in stone, I do plan to do something for Sci-Fi Month this year. I’m finding a better place mentally and physically (do yoga, it’s a marvel), and so I’d like to stretch the mental muscles a little more. It’s good to stretch, after all.
So! For anyone who might be new, Sci-Fi Month is an annual celebration of all things science fiction, organised by your co-captains imyril at There’s Always Room For One More, Annemieke at A Dance With Books, Mayri AKA Bookforager, and yours truly, me, here at Dear Geek Place.
The event runs throughout the month of November, with blogging galore as well as plenty of social media chatter – we have our Bluesky account @scifimonth.bsky.social and our Instagram account @scifimonth, as well as a dedicated Discord server at Other Worlds. If you’d like an invite to the Discord channel, let us know your user name and we’ll fire one your way!
There’s also an official sign-up form which will give participants access to our master schedule, where all the links to your blog posts/social threads etc can go. This lets everyone see what you’re up to and discover new stuff to explore and/or talk about. It also makes the weekly round-ups much easier to deliver, and we do so like the weekly round-ups. They let everybody nerd out together, and that’s what we’re here for, right?
Oh, and of course we have banner art for your delight and communal use!

More details on events such as buddy reads and/or read alongs, and our annual prompt challenge, will be forthcoming in the next updates, so look out for those!
If I was a tease, which I am certainly not, I might drop a hint like something something Becky Chambers…
…But I’m not a tease, so I won’t.
Next update, though. Check that out if you’re interested. *Wink*
