All checks are complete. Readings are optimal. Passengers and crew are aboard, and systems are go. It’s November 1st, which means it’s time to launch the good ship SciFi Month for our 2024 voyage!
As I tend to do, I’m keeping my plans for this event loose and adaptable. That said, I’m starting the month with some time off, so I plan to make the most of it!
As noted elsewhere, I’ll be hosting a buddy read of Kameron Hurley’s The Stars Are Legion, which you can find a dedicated channel for on our Discord server, OtherWorlds. (If you’d like an invite there, get in touch with me or one of my co-hosts – imyril, Mayri or Annemieke – and we’ll get you fixed up!)
Book-wise, I’ve got plans to dive into my recent Worldcon haul, as well as joining another buddy read of Yoon Ha Lee’s Ninefox Gambit and a Read Along of William Gibson’s cyberpunk classic Neuromancer, in celebration of the author’s birthday! Both of those are being hosted/organised by imyril, so be sure to check out her blog for the details.
In addition, it wouldn’t be SciFi Month for me without a dive into some previously unwatched TV shows and movies, and I’ve got plans there too. While we’re enjoying a classic/favourite SF theme for this year’s event, I like to mix it up; I’ll be watching and reviewing Prime Video’s recent Fallout adaptation – though I am mostly unfamiliar with the games that it’s based on, so be kind and avoid spoilers please!
That’s it for me in terms of solid(ish) plans, so I guess on that note I’ve got some reading/watching to do…
