April showers (of information): A Wyrd & Wonder update

It’s April, which means there is now less than a month to go until our fifth annual Wyrd & Wonder adventure begins! I’ve got some more goodies and information for you, so let’s get to that…

Giveaways!

First of all, I promised you giveaway details in the March update, and here’s where I deliver!

I’ve got a delicious duo of prizes for our early birds as a sign-up giveaway. It’s pretty simple – just sign up to participate in Wyrd & Wonder before May 1st. Two lucky winners who sign up early will be selected at random to receive one of the following bookish prizes:

One copy of The Jasmine Throne OR one pre-ordered copy of The Oleander Sword, by Tasha Suri. (Both winners will be offered their choice of book, so it’s totally OK if both go for the same one!)

This giveaway is open internationally; if you live in a country that The Book Depository ships to and you sign up before May 1st, then you’re eligible for entry! The giveaway will close at midnight on Saturday, April 30th (UK time), and I will announce the winners on Twitter on Sunday, May 1st.

The winners will have 48 hours to respond upon being contacted for mailing information; should no response be received, I will select another winner.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL. As is becoming quite the tradition here at Dear Geek Place, I’m offering a second giveaway, which will remain open throughout the month of May, with a winner to be selected on Wednesday, June 1st. The prize for this giveaway is a voucher code worth £20, for one lucky UK participant to spend however they please at The Portal Bookshop’s online shop!

The same rules regarding responses apply here; if I have not received a response from the winner within 48 hours, another winner will be chosen.

Unlike the sign-up giveaway, however, participants will be eligible for entry throughout the month of May! All that’s required is an official sign-up and at least one post made somewhere online before the event ends (blog, Twitter, Instagram etc).

The Darkest Part of the Forest Read Along

It’s time to announce our schedule for my annual Read Along! This year I’ve selected The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black. We’re doing things a little differently for the read alongs this year – anyone who’d like to participate can contact myself or another Wyrd & Wonder host via Twitter DM, and they’ll be invited to a Twitter Community dedicated to read along updates. The weekly questions will remain, but I will be posting those here on my blog (with a spoiler warning, of course!) and a link will be posted in the Community chat, as well as in the Master Schedule. Links to weekly Q&A posts can also be added there or to the Master Schedule, as per usual.

Both imyril and myself are trying this model out for our read alongs this year – check out There’s Always Room For One More for information on The Summer Tree Read Along!

Right! With that out of the way, let’s take a look at the schedule for The Darkest Part of the Forest:

  • Week One: Chapter 1 through Chapter 5; discussion on Saturday, May 7 (hosted by Dear Geek Place)
  • Week Two: Chapter 6 through Chapter 11; discussion on Saturday, May 14 (hosted by Book Nook Reviews)
  • Week Three: Chapter 12 through Chapter 18; discussion on Saturday, May 21
  • Week Four: Chapter 19 through to End; discussion on Saturday, May 28

And as always, if anyone plans to participate and would like to host a week, give me a shout and I can add you to the schedule!

Movie Nights!

It wouldn’t be Wyrd & Wonder without me watching a previously unseen (by me) movie and tweeting my reactions. This year I’m definitely going for two, but I like to play loose with these so there might be more! For the moment, though, my plans are as follows:

Friday, May 13 @ 8pm (UK time): LEGEND

Friday, May 20 @ 8pm: PAN’S LABYRINTH*

Grab some popcorn and join me! Or even grab your own copies (or stream them, hey, we’re all 21st century now) and watch along with me!

*This one is cheating very slightly as I’ve seen it before, but I’ve only seen it once and that was a long time ago. I’m counting it anyway, because I make the rules around here.

That’s it for the moment, but be sure to check out the Twitters and the Instagrams (@wyrdandwonder) to see what the rest of your hosts, and other participants, are going to be getting up to! The eternal hashtag: #WyrdAndWonder. You can also check out posts from my fellow co-hosts, as they go live throughout the day:

Ariana @ Book Nook Reviews

Annemieke @ A Dance With Books

imyril @ There’s Always Room For One More

Jorie @ Jorie Loves A Story

Gosh, I got terribly excited by all this. Time for a cup of tea! See you in May.
